20 ventilators in PIMS for 2 million population
Islamabad—The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday directed the Secretary Capital Administration & Development Division (CADD) to submit detailed report on a petition seeking the court’s intervention on the insufficient number of ventilators in the state-of-the-art hospital of the country, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
The petitioner has submitted before the court that there are only 20 ventilators for a population of 2 million people. Every week, 4 to 6 patients die due to lack of ventilators in the hospital, the petitioner has further said. The existing ventilators are also in poor shape and often become dysfunctional due to one technical reason or the other, the petitioner said.
Advocate Yasir Mehmood Chaudhry representing the petitioner, informed the court that on the other hand, the hospital administration despite being well aware of the serious matter is doing nothing to increase the number of ventilators.
After hearing the arguments Justice Aamer Farooq directing the Secretary CADD to take corrective steps and report to the court within one month disposed of the petition.
