Hesco to recover 64b

Hyderabad—A staggering sum of over Rs 64 billion in unpaid utility bills is owed to Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) by its public and private consumers.
According to a press release issued here on Friday, the Sindh Government and the private consumers share the biggest amount of those unpaid bills. From the total receivables, Rs 31.83 billion were against the private consumers and Rs 30.06 billion against the Sindh Government, according to the press release. The Federal Government owes Rs 2.12 billion to the company, it added.
It further informed that the HESCO was carrying out a recovery drive from the defaulting consumers while also disconnecting the electric supply of the defaulters and the electricity thieves. In that regard 200 connections of defaulting consumers and another 280 illegal connections were severed on Friday while the HESCO staff also submitted applications in the concerned police stations to lodge FIR against those consumers under 462-I of Electricity Act.
The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) has directed the company’s mobile meter readers in Thatta district to ensure 100 percent target completion of accurate meter reading.—APP
