HESCO cuts off over 200 power connections of WASA

Hyderabad—The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) has cut off over 200 power connections of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) here Sunday. The action has caused water shortage in many areas of the district while choking off drains. The HESCO spokesman informed that the WASA failed to pay its utility bills for its 157 connections. He added that the past arrears against WASA had accrued to billions of rupees.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director WASA, Masood Jumani, said the delay in payment of the bills was caused because of correction of the old utility bills as well as for seeking financial approval from the Sindh government. According to him, the WASA wanted to submit demand notice for another 47 connections but the same was getting delayed due to the correction of bills of its 157 existing connections.
He claimed that the action had affected the water filtration plants, water supply and drainage pumping stations.—APP
