Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed on Sunday said the Commission was working to promote higher education in the country with the main focus on its quality.
A detailed plan and strategy under the ‘HEC Vision 2025’ had been prepared for better education system in Pakistan, he said talking to business community here at regional office of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).
The HEC Vision 2025, he said, was a plan wherein requirements/ responsibilities of the higher education institutions (HEIs) had been identified to meet human resource requirements for boosting the knowledge economy of the country.
He said the HEC was ever ready to facilitate industry and academia for the growth of business sector, though reforms required in the education system of Pakistan could not be done by the government alone. Public-private participation and a mix of formal as well as non-formal education could guide the population of the country towards productivity, he added.
FPCCI Regional Chairman Manzoorul Haq Malik said on the occasion that higher education was very important for knowledge economy. Pakistan’s higher education system, he said, needed to be re-engineered effectively to perform better, according to global standards.
He said different programmes for producing professional and skilled human resource capital should be developed on priority basis to cater to the needs of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.
Legislation and structure should be framed to plan for promotion of education in the country, he added.
Appreciating funding for research projects and laboratories, he said that research was very important for growth of economy, asserting that sector-specific and district-wise research should be focused with substantial efforts to identify priority research areas.
