Govt determined to provide best transport facilities to people: Shahbaz

Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said on Monday the provincial government was implementing a comprehensive programme to provide the latest means of transportation to people across the province. He said this while presiding over a high-level meeting during his visit to the camp office of Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) at Kamahan. He also inspected progress being made on the project of Lahore Ring Road Southern Loop.
Director General FWO Lt Gen Muhammad Afzal along with other high officials, commissioner and DC Lahore and other officers were also present on the occasion. The chief minister said the government was working on different projects for provision of the latest transport facilities to people, and spending billions of rupees on these projects. “The Southern Loop project is an important progress in this regard,” he said adding that the FWO was speedily working on the project.
He observed that improvement in transport means promote socio-economic activities and the completion of the project would also boost such activities along with the provision of latest transport facilities to the people. He said that speed and quality of the construction work was the best and added that horticulture should be promoted on both sides of the road and modern technology be utilized for fixing the signboards for the benefit of the people.
He said that the completion of 22.4-km long Southern Loop would facilitate the people and the traffic system would also be sufficiently improved. Earlier, the chief minister was given a detailed briefing about the progress on the Lahore Ring Road Southern Loop and other projects. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said the purpose of observing World Mental Health Day is to create awareness among people about the precautionary measures and treatment of mentally ill patients.
In his message on the eve of World Mental Health Day, the Chief Minister said that due to rising poverty, lack of safety and education, the increase in number of mentally disturbed patients had been witnessed. The mental health also affects our approach, way of thinking and social behavior; while involvement in different types of physical exercises and recreational activities motivates human mind and soul in a positive way. He said that mental health also empowers the human beings to ably deal with daily routine without any mental stress while on the other side; the psychological illness weakens the physical as well as mental abilities of human beings.
He said that mind was the most important part of the human body and therefore, it was all the more important to keep it healthy. He said that healthy human beings could play active role in the overall well being of the society and added that adoption of positive steps for the people suffering from different types of mental ailments is part of the governmental priorities. The government has provided best treatment facilities to the people suffering from different types of mental ailments, he added. The state of mental health could be improved through contentment, promotion of social contacts and a simple life, he said. Today, “We should make a commitment that coordinated efforts will be continued for the treatment and rehabilitation of people suffering from psychiatric diseases. We should also reiterate our commitment that every possible resources will be provided to further improve the facilities available for the treatment of such people”, the CM added.
