Faceless and nameless hostile forces are polluting the minds of the youth through social media, stated Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Thursday.
Addressing participants of a seminar titled Role of Youth in Rejecting Extremism, he termed the youth an asset as and investment for the future.
“The war against terrorism has to be waged together by all organs of the state and public,” he said, adding that Operation Raddul Fasaad represents the beginning of a new phase in this war.
Pakistan Army is the only military in the world that has defeated terrorism of this scale, the army chief stated, explaining that security threats have [now] diminished resulting in an environment where development can take place.
Referring to the sacrifices rendered by the armed forces and the nation in the war against terrorism, the Army Chief said Pakistan stands at the most critical phase in the war on terror.
He said while targeted operations against residual threat, under the ambit of Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad, continue we must also find ways to ensure that the causes behind terrorism are addressed and National Action Plan is actualized.
The army chief said it is unfair and dangerous to associate extremism with Islam. Referring to the rising extremism in India, the army chief said it has given in to extremism and hate has been mainstreamed there.
He said the Hindutva extremism of the RSS, deprivation of Palestinians, the burning and desecration of mosques or gurdwaras in western capitals, the rise of hyper nationalists and the monster of racism, are all manifestations of extremism.
Despite incessant propaganda, he said the fact is Pakistan has rejected terrorism. That speaks of the robustness of our social and religious values. He said the youth are taking part in political discourse in unprecedented numbers and are active in the social arena as well. They are winning accolades for academic achievements abroad
The Army Chief said Pakistan’s enemies are actively pursuing divisive tendencies in the society. The enemies are waging the biggest and most sustained hybrid war against us from multiple directions and using multiple ways.
He said Indian Leadership has made no secret of their active involvement in proxy struggle in erstwhile East Pakistan and now in Balochistan.
Pakistan is cognizant of these threats and is actively countering them with the support of the entire nation.
He said our homes, educational institutions and media houses are the first line of defence against extremism in the society. “We have defeated terrorism together and we will go after extremism too and root it with our values, mental faculties and physical energies,” the army chief added.
