FIA tells IHC…

Islamabad

Facebook management has decided to appoint a focal person on request to act against blasphemous content on social media, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director told Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday.
The FIA director said this in response to the query by Chief Justice Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui about the developments hitherto made in connection with action against blasphemous pages, saying, “FIA failed in investigations so far.”
The Advocate General informed the court that Facebook administration has been approached at the highest level on the issue of blasphemous contents.
Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority (Pemra) Chairman Absar Alam is in the courtroom.
Voicing displeasure over Pemra, Justice Siddiqui said, “Chairman Pemra, what have you done so far? Television channels are airing boyfriend, girlfriend things.”
Pleading before the court, Absar Alam said, “I accepted the job for life in Hereafter. And, I will rise up to the expectations.”
The court ordered the Pemra chief to form a committee to hash out a strategy to thwart vulgarity on television, adding the Secretary Information should be made part to this committee.–NNI
