Lahore—Special Committee to review the yardstick and criteria of establishment of special education institutions for one million school going special children in the province of Punjab was convened today in Civil Secretariat Lahore on the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
Additional Chief Secretary Punjab Shamail Ahmad Khawaja presided over the meeting which considered various proposals to improve the special education scenario in Punjab. Secretary Special Education Ms. Ambreen Raza presented a detailed briefing comprising the rationale of changing various yardsticks and criteria for 256 special education institutions working in the province and informed the meeting that the Special Education Department Punjab has completed the establishment of middle level elementary schools for special children at each and every tehsil headquarters in the province.
She stressed the need to reinforce these special education schools with the technical staff like Audio-meterists and the existing two degree colleges for special persons may be equipped with lecturers in Sign Language.
Additional Chief Secretary Punjab Shamail Ahmad Khawaja approved to send the proposal regarding creation of seven new posts of Audio-meterists in Grade-16 to the Chief Minister Punjab for his final approval and said that the summary to establish special education elementary schools at Sub-tehsil level will also be sent to the Chief Minister without any delay. The proposal to recruit four attendants in each of nine “Shadaab Schools” for mentally challenged special children will also be the part of this summary, he added.
Secretary Regulations Punjab Dr. Saleh Tahir, Secretary I&C Farasat Iqbal, Additional Secretary Finance Abdul Samad and Additional Secretary (Admn.) S&GAD Sahibzadi Waseemah Umer attended the meeting besides other concerned senior officers.
