ECP to mark first ever ‘Voters Day’ on Dec 7


Naushahro Feroze—The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for the first time in the country will mark December 7 as “National Voters Day” to raise awareness about importance of vote.
District Election Commissioner Naushaharo Feroze, Ali Akhtar Khan, addressing a meeting of District Voters Education Committee here on Tuesday said that the decision was taken to encourage the citizens for getting themselves enrolled on voter’s list and to exercise their right of franchise.
He remarked that balloting was not only a requirement for elections but it was the topmost duty of every citizen so every citizen aged above 18 particularly the women would be encouraged to register themselves as voter.
Awareness programmes would be held in all tehsils of the district regarding registration of vote and electioneering process and cooperation of elected representatives and NGOs would also be sought for the purpose.
To highlight the importance of vote, the meeting decided that, an awareness seminar would be held on December 7, 2016 while awareness walk would also be arranged on the same day that would be participated by elected representatives, NGOs, teachers, students and people from different walks of life.—APP
