Drug addiction is defined as convulsive use of narcotic drugs despite having conscious knowledge of their negative consequences. In the last decades drug addiction has increased exponentially in Pakistan. Most of the illegal drugs come from the neighbouring country Afghanistan. According to UN estimates 6.7 million people in the country are drug users between 25 and 39 years of age.
Although 4.25 million individuals are considered as drug dependent, whereas specialist interventions are available to less than 30,000 drug users. I request the government and the other relevant organizations to treat these drug users and establish more such dedicated hospitals for these derailed unfortunate addicts.
