Disrupting Parliament..!

Robert Clements

Sunday, January 09, 2011 - And as the entire winter session of thye Indian Parliament was disrupted, the longest since Independence, I happened to meet an MP going into the House: “Hey you sir, Mr MP, what are you going to do inside Parliament?” “Disrupt proceedings! We are not allowing any business to take place!” “Why?”

“Because the ruling party has to be pulled down!” “So?” “We are on strike!” “Is that what Parliament is for? Have you been elected to Parliament to follow the discipline which you have to follow as a member of the House?” “I don’t know what you are talking about!” “Why are you an MP?” “To pull down the government!” “Is there any other job you have?”

“No!” “Aren’t you elected to pass bills?” “What?” “To talk for your constituency?” “What’s that?” “To see that the poor and needy are looked after?” “Who are they?” “Who are whom?” “The poor and needy?” “Let it be, but don’t you have other work in Parliament other than pulling down the government?” “No!” “What about solving the problem of terrorism?” “Not my problem!” “Rising prices?” “Not my problem!” “Rapes in the capital?” “Not my problem!” “So what is your problem?” “Pulling down the government!” “And tell me..” “What?” “What will you do when you pull down the government?”

“Become the ruling party!” “And…” “Spend the next five years seeing that nobody pulls us down! Now let me go back and disrupt Parliament..!”
