Shane Shillingford did everything to rectify his bowling action, says his coach
The 30-year-old right-handed off-spinner Shillingford, who took Sachin Tendulkar’s wicket (thank you umpire) in the first of Sachin Tendulkar’s last two Tests (Kolkata), is one of the two bowlers (the other being spinner Marlon Samuels) has been reported for the suspectful bowling action.
Both these bowlers were also reported and suspended from bowling in international cricket after their bowling actions were found to be illegal. They were, however, allowed to resume bowling in international cricket after they underwent remedial work on their bowling actions and further testing.
On the question of Shane Shillingford’ ‘s bowling action every spinner today has a suspect action’, Mervin Thomas, the Cricket Coach and Cricket Administrator at Dominica Cricket Board, where Shillingord resides and plays, said over telephone.
‘When he begins to do well and when he comes from the wrong part of the world the question is being asked’.
Shane (Shillingofrd) did all he had to do after his action was reported. He was scrutinized by the experts, recommendations were made, he also did the remedial work with coaches in Dominica and Barbados at the ‘High Performance Centre (HPC) and then was given the all clear to continue playing.
Therefore talk about his action is uncalled for. What we have to do is applaud the young man for fighting adversity and proving to the world he is a class act’, he further added.
According to Clyde Pierrelouis, the official at the Dominica Cricket Board, Shillingford also sought his mentor Tomas Kentish advice on his bowling action.
