Forest dept claims new world record

Sunday, June 23, 2013 - Thatta—Sindh Forest Department claimed on Saturday that around 300 volunteers have set a new world record by planting 670,000 mangroves along the coastal belt of Thatta. The previous record of planting 611,000 plants in a single was held by India. According to details, around 300 volunteers on Saturday made frantic efforts to plant over maximum number of mangroves along the coastal line in an effort to beat a world record held by India.

Plantation is carried out at Thatta’s coastal area of Kharo Chan. The massive campaign began at 6.20 am in the morning. The initiative was carried out with the support of the Asian Development Bank, Coastal Community Development.—NNI
