Azam Hoti’s wife files petition seeking his disqualification

Thursday, April 04, 2013 - Islamabad—The third wife of Mohammad Azam Khan Hoti has filed 4th constitutional petition in the Supreme Court seeking disqualification of her husband.

Shameem Akhtar Kayani, the 3rd wife of Hoti, through her lawyer Hashmat Habib Advocate filed the petition.

Election Commission, Chairman Senate, Speaker National Assembly and Azam Hoti have been made respondents.

In the petition the stance has been adopted that since Azam Khan Hoti is convicted he is not eligible to run for elections. On April 7 2003 the accountability court in Attock had convicted Azam Khan Hoti on charges of accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income and sentenced him to 10-year rigorous imprisonment.

The petitioner had asked the learned court that Azam Khan Hoti be declared ineligible for contesting the elections.—Online
