Staff ReporterThursday, February 14, 2013 - Lahore—115 Navy officers of 42nd Staff Course of Pakistan Navy War College Wednesday visited Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry to explore role of the business community for the economic well being of the country.
Talking to the Navy officers, LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar and SVP Irfan Iqbal Sheikh and VP Mian Abuzar Shad stressed the need for implementation of new economic policies to put the economy back on track. Pakistan Navy War College delegation was led by Commodore Shahid Rao, while former LCCI President Mian Muzaffar Ali and Executive Committee Members Mian Zahid Javaid, Husnain Reza Mirza and Mudassar Masood were also present.
The LCCI president said no country could ever achieve its aims and objectives until and unless it has a strong system backed by strong institutions as weak institutions are bound to expose a country or a state to all types of challenges.
Giving a detailed briefing on LCCI role in policy making, Farooq Iftikhar said the Lahore Chamber is playing its due role for promotion of trade and industry in the country. Over 120 sector-specific Standing Committees collect private sector feedback, analyze and after a thorough debate it is forwarded to the concerned government departments for consideration at the time of preparation of the Federal Budget.
He said the Chamber monitors the budget, anomalies are identified and these coupled with revised proposals are again communicated to the relevant policy making departments. The LCCI, he said, also keeps liaison with the commercial sections of the Foreign missions and an exchange of information is ensured.
