Islamabad—The Government of Japan has decided to extend a financial support of US$ 92,003, approximately Rs.7.55 million for the rehabilitation of village schools and small infrastructure development in Mohmand Agency, FATA.
The financial support would be provided under the Community Appraisal and Motivation Programme (CAMP), a non-governmental organization, under the “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects”.
The agreement for the project was signed here on Monday by the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan Chihiro Atsumi and Chief Executive of CAMP Naveed Ahmad Shinwari.
The grant will be utilized for the restoration of 20 village schools in Mohmand Agency, FATA along with the construction of sewage disposal plants for those schools.
At present, village schools in those areas are decrepit for use but have not been restored due to financial constraints. In addition, most of their sewage disposals are un-sanitarily dumped due to lack of toilets.
Through this project, it is expected that educational environment and sanitary conditions for about 2,200 students in those areas will be improved.
This project is also expected to increase new enrollment in these schools. Furthermore, the project will also develop the infrastructure such as water supply system and drainage ditch in those villages that has been longed by the residents. As a result, it is expected that overall living and sanitary conditions for about 20,000 residents in those areas will be improved.
The Japanese Ambassador Chihiro Atsumi stressed that the improvement of basic educational facilities and water supply system are priority areas for Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA).
He said that Japan considers it vital to assist the development of FATA in light of its importance for the peace and stability of the region.
He hoped that this project would contribute to further strengthening the existing friendly relations between the people of Japan and that of Pakistan.
