Army foiled 123 terrorists’ attacks from Afghanistan

Wednesday, January 16, 2013 - Peshawar—General Officer Commanding Swat Major General Ghulam Qamar Tuesday said Pakistan Army foiled as many as 123 terrorists’ attacks from Afghanistan into Swat and killed 260 miscreants. Addressing Malakand Advisory Council meeting in Khowazakhela, he called for unity among the people to foil the nefarious designs of terrorists adding that terrorists are trying to reorganize and carrying out terrorist activities in Swat could be their priority, he added.

He said that terrorists have time and again tried to enter Swat district via Dir which is bordering Afghanistan but were killed by Pak Army. The terrorists are now trying to enter Swat through Khyber and Bunner but cogent measures have already been taken to stop infiltration, he said adding we are alert all the time.

The GOC maintained that all the activities conducted by Taliban alone have been frustrated by the security force therefore, they are now in collusion with the Afghan Taliban were targeting the positions in bordering areas of Pakistan. Major General Qamar added that the militants were trying to enter in our ranks but we have to remain more conscious to fight them out. He said that the terrorists involved in the all terrorists activities conducted in Swat have been arrested and are being interrogated.

He said development work in Malakand division is in full swing and by the end of Novemer this year the Kalam road would be completed. He said construction work on Swat Expressway would soon be initiated, while 21 new bridge in Dir are under construction. He informed that Rs 5 million have been provided by the government for Women Vocational Centres, adding that on the directive of Army Chief the youth from Malakand division would be recruited in army.
