Mullah Omar’s son-in-law held

Karachi—Law Enforcement Agencies has been arrested a key Afghan Taliban leader of Afghanistan Motasim Agha Jan in Karachi. He was held along with his five aides during a raid on a house in Ahsanabad area. It is said that Agha Jan is son-in-law of Mullah Muhammad Omar.
Motasim Agha Jan, the former chief administrator of the Taliban regime in the late 1990s, was captured Thursday when intelligence agencies on tip off conducted raid on a house at Ehsan Abad near Sohrab Goth area of the metropolis. He is also believed to be the Taliban’s political and military strategist, officials said. Two accomplices of Jan were also arrested in the raid and later taken to undisclosed place for investigation.
Local police expressed unawareness about arrest of the militant commanders’ close relative. Mullah Muhammad Omar, leader of Afghanistan’s Taliban militia is also wanted to US and Pakistani security forces. On February 28, the intelligence agencies had captured Mullah Tayyab Agha alias Popalzai a close aide of Taliban slain leader Baitullah Mehsud from Karachi. Popalzai was a close associate and spokesman of Mullah Omar when they were in power in Afghanistan.
American and Pakistani forces also captured Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, a key leader of Afghan Taliban and deputy of Mullah Omar from Karachi on February 8, in a morning raid.
Another terrorist named Alam Mehsud was arrested by the police at Surjani Town on Thursday. According to police, Alam Mehsud shares a link with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan and also belongs to the Baitullah Mehsud’s group.
A week earlier, a leader of banned outfit Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan Swat had been arrested from Karachi when the sensitive agencies and police had jointly conducted a raid in Banaras. Moreover, Mullah Omar’s second in command aide Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar was also arrested from the provincial capital. Baradar was the deputy defense minister under the Taliban regime.
An American newspaper had claimed that Taliban leader was held during a joint operation by the US and Pakistani forces. However, the ISPR only confirmed the arrest of Mullah Baradar in this regard.
