India, Pakistan armies exchange LoC fire
The ceasefire violation took place along the LoC in the Krishna Ghati sector around 180 km southwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-held Kashmir.
“Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing on our posts,” claimed S N Acharaya, Indian army spokesman based in Jammu, adding that the Indian army fired in retaliation.
“We also fired in retaliation to silent Pakistani guns,” said Acharaya.
No loss of life or damage to property was reported in the exchange that lasted for over four hours. New Delhi and Islamabad in 2003 agreed to observe a ceasefire along the International Border and LoC in Kashmir. Though some violations have been reported on both sides, the ceasefire remains in effect. —NNI
