Kam Air flights off

Friday, November 16, 2012 - Kabul—Afghan private airline Kam Air has suspended flights to the United Arab Emirates saying competition from foreign airlines has made the route unviable for the carrier. Kam Air officials blamed the Afghan government for allowing foreign competitors to unfairly undercut prices, or price dump, and said that local companies face bankruptcy because they cannot compete with the foreign companies. “We have informed the Ministry of Transport and Aviation about the price dumping strategy of the foreign airlines, but no one there is chasing our problem, so we have temporarily suspended our flights to Dubai,” Head of Kam Air Zmrai Kamgar said in a phone conversation, adding that other, newer Afghan companies will collapse if this continues. Kam Air suspended the flights last week, officials said. Its website still has notices promoting trips to Dubai and offering assistance with UAE visas.—NNI
