SESSI sets aside Rs100m for industrial workers

Thursday, October 18, 2012 - Karachi —An amount of Rs100 million has been earmarked in the current year budget 2011-2012 for the development and extension plans of Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI) in order to provide better facilities to the workers in the province, this was stated by Director SESSI, Nishat Zaidi. Speaking at a presentation held at Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) here on Wednesday, Nishat said that the Rs ten crores have been allocated for purchase of plots for constructions of dispensaries/ medical centres, hospitals in Karachi and interior Sindh.

She said that as per plan a 200 bed-hospital in Site Area Kotri (First Phase) would be constructed while construction of dispensary in SITE Area Karachi, construction of S.S. Madina Dispensary and Poly Clinic at ITC Landhi Circle, Surgical Complex at S.S. Landhi Hospital, extension of labour room at S.S. Landhi Hospital, extension of Admin Block at S.S. Landhi Hospital and construction of casualty complex with O.T. at S.S. KV SITE Hospital, Karachi would be executed during the period. She further said that SESSI is a service oriented organization whose function of the Institution is unique in nature for the welfare of labour class. It aims at providing medical care facilities and cash benefits to the secured workers and their dependants.

More than 70% of SESSI budget revolves around medical care. Speaking o the occasion President All Karachi Industrial Alliance, Mian Zahid Hussain appreciated the SESSI plans to improve facilities for the industrial workers. He called upon the skilled workers and labour force to get maximum benefit from the SESSI. He urged an effective coordination between the workers and SESSI.

The Chairman KATI, Mohammad Zubair Chhaya in his welcome address stressed the need of spreading awareness among the industrial workers about the facilities being provided by the SESSI. He said that industrialists usually feel SESSI contribution a burden but they need to realize the benefits of this service.
