Tackling distorted mindset

Dr Iqbal S Hussain

Thursday, October 11, 2012 - Misconception of Islam in the West is the most disturbing phenomenon of the 21st century. Entrenched in bias and bigotry the new cottage industry of misconceived ideas and perceptions is emerging in America with a large matrix of moulds and masks to distort the image of Islam and its Prophet (PBUH). With videos and caricatures materials are presented to the readers to identify the ugly facets with the religion, and prophet of Islam. The Quran is burnt and the perpetrators gleefully enjoy the extravaganza of laughter emanating from the their perversion.

Since 9/11 demonization of Islam in the West has become a thriving industry which continues to propagate images and perceptions designed to perpetuate a process of hatemongering, conceit and clash. Film like “Innocence of Muslims” adds dimensions to the images that are built on a culture of purity and excellence. Thus malicious moulds and distorted devices are cast to conceive substances of substandard species. The latest depiction appears with the connivance of an American pastor and a Jewish fraudster in California.

Muslims have been protesting but the perverts continue to perpetuate the course of perversion. The US President Barack Obama has told a recent UN General Assembly session that he cannot do anything against the conspirators running the hate based foundations in America as the US constitution allows them the freedom of expression and action.

However, there is every possibility that the continuing tide of diabolical devices may turn the events increasingly unpleasant and more crushing. If the confrontational attitudes continue to perpetuate the clashes might shatter the dimensions of human civilization. This would be a great occasion for laughter for Huntington who in his grave would be relishing on the outcome of his theories. Religions and civilizations will be exposed to the worst form of confrontational clashes and disruptions. Therefore, the continuing tide of anti-Muslim hatred is a menace to all of us. It has to be faced with all forms of rational thought and constructive conceptions. Religion has to be browsed and civilized attitudes are to be nurtured in order to sustain and survive the turmoil of human apprehensions. The most powerful and important precept of coexistence is the tenet of tolerance and patience as preached both by Islam and Christianity.
