Cleanup operation against militants, 20 suspects held

Peshawar—A soldier of Pak army embraced Shahadat while another was injured in an explosion caused by the IED in Mandal Nala in Bajaur agency while in Shabqadar tehsil of Charsadda district a security personnel sustained wounds when a convoy of the security forces was attacked by the Taliban militants with remote control device whereas in semi tribal belt Peshawar, the forces launched spring cleaning operation against the miscreants and apprehended 20 on the very first day.

Sepoy Noor Ahmed Chitrali embraced Shahadat while Sepoy Rahmat Ghaffar Chitrali got minor injuries in an IED explosion and the forces secured Kotkai ,Bara Banda, Halki and Charmang valley and apprehended four terrorists in Bajaur agency.

The militants exploded the remote control bomb as soon as the security forces convoy reached the Dandoo Pull (bridge) near Shabqadar in district Charsadda. The vehicle was partially damaged in the explosion.

In Swat district, security forces arrested four militants including a local commander during search operation in Damghar area of tehsil Kabal and shifted them to undisclosed location for interrogation, official sources informed. The forces later dynamited their houses with explosive materials. Those nabbed are Commander Musa Khan alias Gul, Shah Faisal, Qadar Shah alias Toor Khan and Nadar Shah.

A joint operation named “Spring Cleaning” has been launched in FR Peshawar Thursday morning and security forces apprehended 20 suspected terrorists. According to FC spokesman here, army, Frontier Corps and Frontier Constabulary troops are participating in this operation. Operation is progressing smoothly and so far security forces have apprehended about 20 suspect terrorists. Among these five suspects are critically injured. Large number of arms and ammunition has also been recovered.

The security forces so far have occupied dominating heights around Bora-Pastawana and Walai kandaho. Search operation of the area is in progress. Security forces have also established strong presence in Jani Khel, Babu Khel and Tor Chappar valleys.

During the last 24 hours, a convoy of 8 vehicles carrying passengers from Parachinar to Thall duly escorted by Frontier Corps and Political Administration reached Alizai safely in Kurram Agency. A convoy of 163 vehicles carrying passengers and goods escorted by Frontier Corps from Thall reached Alizai Lower Kurram safely.

Another convoy of goods consisting of 88 trucks moved from Alizai for Parachinar via main Thall, Parachinar road and reached Parachinar safely under the proper escort of Frontier Corps and Political Administration. A van carrying passengers which was not part of the convoy and was moving independently was ambushed by some unknown terrorists in Thall area of district Hangu at Toot Kas, Toor Ghar area. Resultantly 4 persons were killed while 3 persons were injured.

In Khyber Agency, three suspected terrorists have been apprehended from different areas of Bara. Huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered during a routine checking from a truck near Torkham. In Mohmand Agency, in an IED blasted area Bian Khel, no

causality and damage occurred. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and apprehended 22 suspects in operation in Abbas Markaz and surrounding area.

In Peshawar a group of dacoits at gunpoint looted UBL GT road branch at Hasthnagri here Thursday and escaped along with Rs.3.8million booty.DSP City Gulfat Khan told reporters that four armed gunmen entered at UBL branch on main GT road and made hostage the entire staff by looting the bank on broad day light. They also injured the security guard of the bank. The dacoits also took away the Bank’s CCTV camera along with themselves. The police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. Investigation has been started.

In a briefing here on Thursday, Additional IGP NWFP Abdul Majeed Marwat said that 211 police jawans were martyred and 518 injured last year while combating terrorism as 18 more martyred and 60 injured during the current year 2010.

The Additional IGP was briefing the visiting 39 member delegation of Civil Services of various occupational groups of National Management Course, Lahore. Group leader Lt. Gen. (R) Javed Hassan led the delegation.

Additional IGP Headquarters Abdul Majeed Marwat briefed the delegation in detail and informed about the law and order, militancy, IEds and suicide attacks, Malakand situation initiatives taken by the police, sensitization and mobilization of the public, capacity building performance, constraints and challenges confronting the police.

He told that during the last year 138 terrorists were killed and in the current year so far 19 terrorists have been eliminated. In all 47 suicide attacks were made in 2009 and in the current year 7 suicides attack took place so far, he explained.

They were told that last year 5898 kilgramme explosive materials, 20 suicide jackets, 14301 hand grenades and dynamites and 656 rocket launchers were recovered. They were also informed about the damages of police buildings and vehicles in the war against terrorism.

In light of detailed briefing the members of delegation asked various questions from the Additional IGP which were answered to their dully satisfaction DMG, foreign services, Police, Secretariat, Audit and Accounts, Railways, Postal Services, Commerce and Trade officers are attending the course.

Later, shields were also exchange on this occasion. The delegation is now-a-days on country wide field study tour.
