WRCP to train journalists on gender sensitive reporting

Sunday, September 23, 2012 - Islamabad—White Ribbon Campaign Pakistan (WRCP) will launch a ‘Nationwide Journalists Engagement Program” to train journalists on gender sensitive reporting. White Ribbon Campaign Pakistan - WRCP is a project of Women’s Empowerment Group and Vision 2015, working with men and boys to eradicate women’s human rights violations.

White Ribbon Media Awards would also be announced in different categories of print and electronic media under the program.

WRCP would arrange training workshop for journalists on the code of ethics for gender sensitive reporting which was developed by it earlier this year in consultation with over 150 senior journalists across the country.

The code of ethics encompasses basic principles of media ethics, mainstreaming gender in media coverage, accountability and impartiality and gender stereotyping.

Talking on the occasion Chief Executive Officer of the White Ribbon Campaign Pakistan (WRCP) Omer Aftab said that as effective content through electronic and print media can highlight violence against women as a crime against humanity.
