NA Speaker calls for peaceful resolution of disputes

Friday, September 21, 2012 - Islamabad—Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Speaker National Assembly has called upon the world leaders and United Nation to join hands to resolve disputes for establishment of durable and lasting peace across the glob.

She said this in a message on the International Peace Day will be observed through out the world to highlight the importance of a sustainable peace across the globe tomorrow.

The Madam Speaker said that peace is imperative for progress and prosperity. She stressed for adoption of a multi-pronged strategy to counter the militancy and extremism throughout the world, which is detrimental to the world peace, harmony and development. She said that the strategy should focus on engaging nations into dialogue, to workout peaceful resolution of all outstanding disputes between the nations so that durable and sustainable peace could be achieved.

Dr. Fehmida Mirza said that the world was confronting numerous challenges, which are determental to the development of peace and prosperity of the people. She said that the poverty, illiteracy and unemployment were major causes of unrest and instability food shortages were the glaring of all, which needed to be addressed properly. It could only be achieved when peace is achieved. The Speaker said that media and leaders should play their role in spreading the message of peace in the world.

The Speaker condemned the blasphemous movie. She said that such hateful act were determental to interfaith harmony and peace of the world. She called upon world community and international organizations to enact laws to curb the such scurrilous acts. She was confident that the concerted efforts of leaders, individuals, communities and governments would usher in a peaceful era where prosperity and welfare would reign.
