3 die, 100 injured in trains collision


Tuesday, September 18, 2012 - Karachi—At least three persons including a railway guard were killed and more than 100 others injured in collision between two passenger trains near Bin Qasim station here on Monday. According to DS Railway Karachi, Amjad Rizwi, the incident took place 50km away from Karachi when Karachi-bound Shalimar express rammed into Millat Express standing near Ghagar Crossing for signal clearance.

The accident was so severe that two bogies of Millat Express were derailed, engine of Shalimar Express was destroyed while several passengers were trapped in derailed boggies.

Millat Express from Multan and Shalimar Express from Lahore were on way to Karachi. As a result of collision three persons including railway guard were killed while more than 100 sustained wounds.

The rescue teams reached to the scene of accident and shifted the injured to different hospitals of Karachi. Emergency was declared in all hospital of city to deal with the situation. Commissioner Karachi, Roshan Ali Sheikh said that the accident seems to be result of mistake of driver of Shalimar Express.—INP
