All main rivers flow normal

Monday, September 10, 2012 - Islamabad—The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) on Sunday said that all main rivers Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normal except for River Kabul, which is flowing in low flood at Warsak and medium flood at Nowshera.
According to daily FFC report, the reservoir elevations indicates that Tarbela and Mangla Dams are at elevations of 1547.40 feet and 1187.65 feet respectively, which are 2.60 feet and 54.35 feet below their respective Maximum Conservation Levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet.
Today’s combined live storage position of Tarbela, Chashma & Mangla reservoirs is 10.307 MAF as compared to last year’s 11.907 MAF.
According to Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Lahore, yesterday’s Monsoon Low over Western Rajasthan (India) and adjoining Pakistan now lies over Eastern Sindh Trough of Westerly Wave lies over Kashmir and adjoining areas.
Seasonal Low lies over Northern Balochistan. Strong monsoon current is penetrating into Southern Punjab and Sindh upto 7000 feet.
Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Lahore, predicted widespread thunderstorm /rain with scattered heavy to very heavy falls at times extremely heavy falls are expected over Sindh (Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas & Karachi Divisions), Northeastern Balochistan (Zhob, Qalat, Sibbi and Nasirabad Divisions) and southern Punjab (Bahawalpur, Multan, D.G. Khan & Sahiwal Divisions) during the next 24 hours.
Scattered thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls may also occur over Kashmir, Upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala and Lahore Divisions) including upper catchments of Rivers Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej, besides, isolated thundershower over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan during the same period. Heavy rains may cause flush flooding in local nullahs and hill torrents of D.G. Khan, nasirabad, Sibbi and Zhob Divisions during the next 24 hours.
