Conference on Buddhist archaeology concludes

Saturday, September 01, 2012 - Peshawar—The Curator of the Peshawar Museum, Nidaullah Sehrai returned home after attending a SARRC Conference in Colombo on the ‘Archaeology of Buddhism: Recent Discoveries in South Asia’. The conference was attended by a large number of scholars, academicians, students and Monks of the SARRC countries. He was the only delegate from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who presented a paper on the Post Partition Buddhist Archaeology of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The participants appreciated the efforts of the various institutions working in Pakistan and showed interest in the post partition excavation. The conference started by igniting the lamps. The inaugural speech was made by Sri Lankan Minister for External Affairs, Proessor G.L. Peiris and key note address was delivered by Dr. Roland Silva, Chancellor, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.

At a time two sessions were taking place in Maya and Phiti Hall of the Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Mawatha, Colombo-05. The participants were presented payers on the recent discoveries in South Asia. Monks from Myanmar and Sri Lanka took active part in the proceedings of the conference. Cultural shows were arranged for the participants by the SAARC Cultural Centre in Colombo.
