Malik urges forging unity, religous peace


Thursday, August 30, 2012 - Islamabad—Interior Minister Rehman Malik has urged all communities living in Pakistan to forge unity in their ranks to foil designs of those who want to destroy peace of the country.

Addressing a seminar in Islamabad on Wednesday he said all religions preach peace and tolerance but some elements are indulging in negative activities for their own vested interests.

The Minister said the example of developed countries is clear manifestation of the fact that peace leads towards prosperity and we should also contribute our share for establishment of durable peace.

Rehman Malik thanked Ulema and religious leaders representing different schools of thought and faiths for their support for the cause of peace and harmony.

The participants of the seminar adopted a resolution pledging to dedicate their lives for religious harmony and resolution of economic and social problems.

They also committed themselves to working for betterment of the future of the mankind irrespective of their religious belief.

The Interior Minister appealed Taliban to lay down their arms and work for development of Pakistan and the Islamic Ummah.

He asked Ulema to work for peace and bring the extremist elements to the path of peace and righteousness.

Rehman Malik said that foreign countries are promoting terrorism in Pakistan to destabilize the country and prove that it cannot protect its nuclear assets.

However‚ he said if we have manufactured nuclear weapons we also know how to protect them. —NNI
