Railway situation

Hira Tariq

Thursday, August 30, 2012 - Transportation system is considered to be the backbone of any country’s development. The world mostly depends on railways for their land traveling. Many countries took improvement of railway system as their first step towards their journey of development, which resulted in not only a better economy, but a high level of satisfaction among the people and an increase in the popularity of their governments.

Unfortunately, in Pakistan, only higher claims have been made in the name of development yet, and the railway system here along with non-availability of some basic necessities and amenities of life has reached the brink of destruction. In 1947, during the partition of subcontinent, the state of railway system was almost same and equal in Pakistan and India. However, if the existing system of Pakistan and India is compared, it will be enough for eye opening to know that India is far ahead of us in this regard. Though Pakistan Railways has been providing people cheap traveling and low cost cargo services for a long time, but the system has been robbed instead of being updated with the passage of time. As a result, the train’s journey towards each corner of the country has been paralyzed due to lack of engines.

The question is how this organization will be able to stand on its own feet? When the notice of this disruption and the action against those who are destroying it will be taken? Shall we see the underground metro running in Pakistan in our life, like in India? And if not, then should we expect our future generations to see it??
