NAM summit from today
The 16th NAM summit will be held in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Thursday (today) and Friday.
Spokesman of the 16th NAM Summit Ramin Mehman-Parast told reporters on the sidelines of NAM ministerial meeting here in Tehran on Wednesday that 50 foreign ministers and five other ministers are currently in Iran, adding that the number of senior world officials to participate in the NAM summit later this week will grow to 80 after 24 presidents.
“That is another indication of the high-level of the summit,” Mehman-Parast stated.
NAM is comprised of some 120 member states and 17 observer countries.
NAM is an international organization of states considering themselves not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. NAM is the largest grouping of countries outside of the United Nations.
NAM member states represent nearly two-thirds of the United Nations’ members and comprise 55% of the world population, particularly countries considered to be developing or part of the Third World.— NNI
