Raja advocates strong parliament

Saturday, August 18, 2012 - Islamabad—Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said Friday that democracy is the way to govern any country and a strong parliament will lead to strong institutions.

Addressing a check que distributing ceremony for Wasila-e-Haq programme under the Benazir Income Support Programme on Friday Prime Minister Ashraf said democracy was the solution to all problems. He added that the situation in the country could only be improved if parliament and democracy were strengthened.

Extending an offer of dialogue to all political parties for reconciliation and hold fair, free and impartial elections, the Prime Minister hoped that the political leaders by realizing national responsibility would cooperate with the government.

The prime minister reiterated that the PPP would take all necessary measures to ensure that the elections were free and fair.

The prime minister said for holding an impartial and transparent next general election, “we are taking the opposition into confidence, and for this We have taken a start from the consensus appointment of Chief Election Commissioner.”

He said, “We want an impartial and transparent election, so that transfer of power takes place in a democratic way, which would be a big success for the continuity of democracy in the country.”

The prime minister emphasized that the country also belonged to expats and the opposition and the government was not against anyone. Prime Minister Ashraf further said the people’s court would decide on what was right or wrong and this would be done via the ballot box.

Talking about BISP programme PM said that the programme is benefiting more than 60 lakh families. He said it is a non- political programme and is working solely on merit. He said that half of population of Balochistan is benefiting from this programme. PM said in FATA we are facing difficulties but the BISP staff is working and 100,000 families are benefiting in tribal areas.

On this occasion PM distributed checks worth RS 150,000, Benazir debit crad and Life insurance certificates amongst the deserving women..
