Govt serious in holding fair elections: Raja
Speaking at the Iftar dinner he hosted in honour of media-persons here on Monday the Prime Minister said that elections are the only way to strengthen the parliament.
He said, PPP government is committed to hold ing elections in transparent manner so that the people could choose their representatives.
He said the people would get an opportunity to decide who would run the government in the future.
Prime Minister said that after appointment of consensus CEC, next general elections would be held in more transparent manner. He added election is our field and we are always ready to go to elections.
He said that the government would ensure holding of free, fair and transparent elections in the country, which was the only way to strengthen democracy.
He said the PPP government carried out record development projects in the last four years and would contest the elections on the basis of its performance. Highlighting the role of media, the Prime Minister said media role has become important in the prevailing situation.
He called upon media to play its role effectively. He said media is an important pillar of the society, adding incumbent government cannot think to impose curbs on media. He said several measures were taken by the government to strengthen media. He urged media not to spread despondency and highlight only facts.
He said despondency affects investment and national development. Raja Parvez Ashraf said the Government welcomes criticism by media and gets guidance from it.
