Saturday, August 04, 2012 - Islamabad—Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) through its Waseela-e-Sehet program has planned to provide life insurance of Rs. 100,000 to more than 4.1 million deserving families.

Under Health Insurance, beneficiaries of all age groups will be covered (up to 6 members), hospitalization resulting from illness or injury with an annual maximum amount of Rs. 25,000 per family.

An official in BISP told APP that life insurance covering these families will be extended to all declared eligible families upon completion of data entry.

This program is initiated for the poor and underprivileged by improving access to health services and reducing income loss from catastrophic health shocks in the country, he told. The pilot phase in Faisalabad has been launched recently with the aim to expand in the entire country, he stated.

He said that a data of 27 million households across the country was collected during the exercise of Poverty scorecard survey in this regard. This card will allow patients identified by the BISP to obtain health services at enlisted private and public hospitals, working in partnership with National/International Health Insurance Companies, he added.—APP
