Women in Police

Muhammad Uzair Niazi

Monday, July 30, 2012 - The police department in Pakistan was neglected from the beginning. It was not receiving the same attention, as it was receiving in the colonial times. The male dominance is tremendously increased in this department. The doors of this department were having a limited access for women, as the society also played a key role to become a hurdle in front of women when ever they want to show any interest for joining police department. This rigid reflection played a very vital role in cultivating an odd concept in our society, that this department is only associated to the male segment. This mind set has deeply penetrated in our society, but we have to change this by highlighting the positive developments in police department regarding women. This will help in encouraging the women of our society to join police as a profession. There is always a solution to any problem, and by navigating in a proper direction we can achieve our goals.

At present the winds of change are blowing as many women are now the vibrant part of police department. A number of them are at the leading posts and are having their say in their job spheres. They are performing their duties with complete responsibility and excelling with flying colors. The police department in Pakistan is undergoing different healthy changes in which women are welcomed with honor and respect.

The present women officials have paved the path for new generation, and are role models for all the women in our society. By joining police women will be in a better position to facilitate their families and become a responsible member. Majority of women are unaware of their rights, so by joining police they will find a platform where they will be in a better position to know about their rights. Women are also the custodians of our society like men, and can become the agent of change. So the induction of more women in police will have a trickle down effect in our society, and will help in rooting up a positive image of this department.
