Energy crisis
Monday, July 16, 2012 - Peshawar—The Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ameer Haider Hoti said that collective efforts are needed to address the energy crises. Addressing the inaugurating ceremony of Khor Hydal Power Project at Bisham, he said that provincial government has started work on hydro power generation project to steer country out of energy crises and collective efforts are needed to achieve the desired results. Prime Minister, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Barrister Massod Kausr, Federal Minister for Water and Power, Ahmad Mukhtar, Speaker KP Assembly, Kiramat Ullah, Senior Minister KP, Rahin Dad Khan, Provincial Health Minister Syed Zahir Ali Shah, Chairman Wapda, Shakil Durrani,MPAs and elites of the area attended the ceremony. The Chief Minister said that persistent increase in demand of electricity by ten percent has been witnessed but unfortunately the issue of generating cheap electricity to meet the demand has not been addressed properly. He said that the government is sincerely and tirelessly endeavouring to resolve the issue and an action plan has been formulated after the consultation of opposition with an objective to ensure the continuity of the power generation projects. 2100 MW electricity would be added to national grid by 24 projects with financial implication of Rs 24 billions, he added. The Chief Minister said that Daral Khowr, Mataltan Project and Lawi Chitral Project would generate 826 MW electricity cumulatively besides augmenting provincial economy by generating extra revenue. Hoti said that feasibility study of eight 826 MW projects have been completed among which four were approved while rest have been despatched to federal government for approval.—APP
