SAFMA launches new initiatives for media, peace
Monday, July 16, 2012 - Islamabad—Free Media Foundation signed a 1.4 million dollar two-year contract with Royal Norwegian Embassy to support South Asian Free Media Association’s (SAFMA) program “Media development, freedom and peace” in South Asia at a signing ceremony with chief guest Minister for Information Qamar Zaman Kaira in the chair. Ambassador of Norway Cecilie Landsverk and Executive Director of FMF Imtiaz Alam signed the agreement in the presence of leading journalists
from various media organizations. Secretary General SAFMA Imtiaz Alam thanked Norway for its unconditional support for the program for the last ten years while vowing to become self-reliant in the next few years. Highlighting SAFMA’s new initiatives for the development of media, defense of freedoms and democratic values, conflict resolution, peace and cooperation among the ember countries of SAARC, he revealed that SAFMA.—Online
