RAC organizes women art and craft exhibition


Monday, July 16, 2012 - Rawalpindi—Rawalpindi Arts Council in collaboration with SPO (Strengthening Participatory Organization) organized an exhibition with title of Women Art & Craft here on Sunday.

In the exhibition, handicrafts made by women prisoners were put on display. Also, hand made jewellery, pottery decoration, dresses and glass work were displayed.

The main motive to organize the exhibition was to present the handicrafts of women imprisoned in different jails to the public so that they may be able earn their livelihood on their own.

A play entitled, “Hawa ki Beti” was also presented in the arts council auditorium, in which Ejaz Baig, Iffat Chaudhary and Saleem Babba also acted.

The challenges and difficulties faced by a woman in our society were discussed in the play Renowned folk singers of the region also performed on the occasion.

Talking on the occasion, Program Officer SPO (Strengthening Participatory Organization), Nosheen Akbar said progress of the country is impossible without empowerment of women.

Women imprisoned in jails are also part of the society and it the duty of everyone to make them active member of the society, she added.

Resident Director Rawalpindi Arts Council, Waqar Ahmed was of the view that the arts council is providing representation to the women.—Online
