Most CNG buses stay off road
Only 5 to 10 percent vehicles are providing transport facilities to people of the city due to which they have to face immense problems in reaching their destinations in the hot season. The Punjab government, in November 20111, launched 56 new buses which were inaugurated by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif but all buses could not start their operation due to the laxity of officers of the transport department and CNG supply problems.
Talking to APP, passengers of route B-9, B-33 and B-6 said they had to wait for hours for buses and sometimes hire expensive rickshaws to reach their destinations.
Passengers at Shadman Chowk said the bus operation on route 33 had been badly affected, leaving them at the mercy of rickshaw drivers. They appealed to the chief minister to take strict action against relevant staff and provide better transport facilitate to them.—APP
