Forced landing in Pakistan..!

Thursday, July 12, 2012 - On Monday an Air India

flight, flying from Abu

Dhabi to New Delhi made an emergency landing in Nawabshah Airport in Pakistan. Imagine the scene when the passengers returned ten hours later to Delhi: “Show us the marks, where you are hurt! Your shoulders! Back! Your wrists! Where?” “Shoulders? Back? Wrists? What marks? Where?” “Marks of your torture in the enemy jails?”

“There was no torture!” “Thank God no torture, so how long was the interrogation? What did they ask you? Did you tell them where our nuclear missiles were? Did you reveal any secrets?” “No! They did not ask, we did not have to reveal anything!” “Did they herd you into a military camp?”

“No, into a dining hall!” “They gave you water?” “Soft drinks, biryani and kababs!” “And the plane? Did they steal all our fuel?” “No!” “No?” “No, they refueled our plane free!” “Tell me something?” “Yes?” “Are you sure you landed in Pakistan?” And in Pakistan as the airport staff return home, they are mobbed by their friends: “How did they look?” “Who?”

“The Indians? Like murderers, like the enemy?” “They looked like frightened people who’d escaped an air-crash!” “Did they have a funny smell?” “Funny smell?” “Yes aren’t they supposed to smell funny?” “They smelt like all the other passengers who get down here!” “Did they write notes, click snaps of our airport?” “No, they clicked snaps of us!” “You?”

“Yes, standing with them, smiling, with our arms around their shoulders!” “Tell me something?” “Yes?” “Are you sure they were Indians?” Two nations, so hospitable to each other, concerned enough to give care and compassion in each other’s time of need, still believe they are enemies? I hope this forced landing in Pakistan, brings each closer to the other..!
