Food grains reaching Valley not fit for human consumption: KEA

Wednesday, July 11, 2012 - Srinagar—Kashmir Economic Alliance has alleged that Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department is distributing substandard rice which is not fit for human consumption.

In a statement issued here, KEA-a largest amalgam of trade bodies in Valley- said GoI was biased towards Kashmir while implementing central sponsored schemes. It said under various schemes the families should get food grains under certain prices and there should be a smooth distribution of the commodities. “However, we have been frequently receiving complaints of misappropriation of food grains allocated to the valley. A considerable quantity of food grains do not even enter valley and is sold in the open markets outside our state,” the statement read.— NNI
