Omar asks India, Pakistan to resolve some vexed issues

Wednesday, July 11, 2012 - Jammu—External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna’s visit to Islamabad will spur an India-Pakistan dialogue but “talks for the sake of talks will yield nothing”, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said. The talks must continue because issues between India and Pakistan would be resolved only through dialogue, he said. He stressed that the talks should cover the issues of Jammu and Kashmir and Siachen glacier.

The Chief Minister hoped that the proposed Indo-Pak talks between the Foreign Ministers of the two countries in September will resolve some of the vexed issues between the two neighbours. “Talks should continue. There is no solution possible without talks. But if the talks are held just for the sake of talks, there is no benefit. There are several issues between India and Pakistan. The results should be coming out of these bilateral talks now,” Omar told reporters here.—NNI
