Kashmir Grand Mufti nominates son as successor


Wednesday, July 11, 2012 - Srinagar—Mufti Azam Mufti Bashir-u-din has nominated his son and deputy, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam as his successor for the coveted chair in the supreme court of Islamic Shariat.

The nomination was made in presence of Ullema at the Imam Azam conference held at grand Mufti’s Soura residence at Srina gar.

Soon after the announcement Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam was honoured with traditional Dastaar Bhandi by Mutawali and Sajada Nisheen of Dargah Sharief Hazratbal Khawja Ghulam Hassan Banday and Sajada Nisheen Kharlpora Dargah-i-Andrabia Syed Ali Shah Andrabi.

“All the prominent Ullema, members of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim personal law board, dignitaries of both main stream and separatist unanimously endorsed the decision of the Grand Mufti,” a statement issued here said.

“Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam is already in news for his historic fatwa against the conversions in Kashmir”, a statement said.—NNI
