Fai hands himself over to prison authorities

Wednesday, July 11, 2012 - Maryland—Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai has handed himself over to prison authorities here. Fai was sentenced by a Virginia court on charges of tax evasion, taking money from a foreign government and trying to influence American policy.

Fai will be kept at a minimum security prison for two years followed by three years of supervised release.

He said, “I made a mistake, but Kashmir cause is wise.” He added, “Kashmir cause has not been affected, people came to know that it’s an important international issue.”

Fai’s imprisonment was delayed because he had requested to attend his child’s graduation ceremony.—Agencies
