CNG kits, cylinder makers seek lifting of ban


Thursday, July 05, 2012 - Karachi—The manufacturers of CNG kits and cylinders have urged the government to lift a ban, imposed on the import of CNG kits and cylinders in January this year to save huge local and foreign investment in this sector.

Addressing a joint press conference here Wednesday, regional managing director Middle East of Lendirenzo, Italy, Alberto Barbieri said that his company has made a considerable investment and developed a vast service network for the growth of CNG sector in Pakistan.

He said foreign companies have made Rs 14 billion foreign investment in CNG sector in Pakistan while public investment stands at Rs 120 billion and other service producers have pumped in Rs 108 billion.

He pointed out that CNG sector has created 500,000 direct and indirect jobs in the country, developed at least 10,000 conversion centres, paying a huge revenue to the government and saving Rs 430 billion of fuel.

He said original equipment manufacturers (OEM) including Toyota, Suzuki and other car assemblers have also made huge investment for the installation of CNG kits in their vehicles.—APP
