Public hospitals faced with vaccine shortage


Thursday, July 05, 2012 - Islamabad—Public hospitals of Islamabad are faced with shortage of snake and dog bite vaccination. The vaccination is prepared by the National Institute of Health (NIH).

According to doctors during the summer season, the dog biting cases are reported in slums of the city while the patients are bound to buy the injections from private medical stores.

The doctors said the patient’s health can deteriorate if the vaccination is not administered in time. Sources said the patients need recommendation to get medicine of even allergy from the NIH.

They said that inter provincial ministry imports polio and other vaccinations from abroad while vaccination of measles can be prepared in the country but commission mafia is playing its role to import the vaccine from India.

Sources claimed that a dosage of measles vaccine can be prepared in the country at the price of Rs10 to Rs12 but it is being imported at a much higher price between Rs30 to Rs40.—Intime
