Trains suspension irks passengers

Monday, June 25, 2012 - Lahore—Railways passengers suffer due to suspension of several trains by the administration after the Kamoke incident.

Passengers alleged the PR administration had intentionally suspended the operation of some trains to hide their mismanagement. They termed the suspension of trains as a conspiracy against the federal government.

Daily Passengers Association PR President Chaudhary A Majid Bal said on Sunday that only passenger trains of branch lines had been suspended and questioned, “ Is there no danger to mail and long distance trains?”

He said the present PR administration had failed in operating the railways and demanded the government take notice against it for creating hardships for people.

DPA Chairman Hafiz Abdul Qayyum said passengers of Narowal section were badly hit by the decision as there was no other means of transport for them.

He also demanded the PR chairman and higher authorities to restore all trains so that problems of the passengers could be addressed.

When contacted, General Manager Operations Junaid Qureshi said that all suspended trains would be restored if the Inspector General Punjab Police assured the PR about their security.

Talking to media persons, he said that passengers lives and public assets were important than train operations and the PR could not take any risk.
