Israel’s barbaric air raids on Gaza

Monday, June 25, 2012 - ISRAELI air raids on Palestinian targets in Gaza on Saturday killing three people appears to be a rerun of its 10th March 2012 raids, that killed 15 Gazans for no fault of them. The air raids by the Zionists are crimes against humanity and yet another manifestation of might is right. It is understood that Israeli actions are part of long-term agenda, which has been conceived, with the backing of Washington to keep Palestinians quiet. Over the past 25 years different tactics have been applied including the Camp David agreement giving hopes to the Palestinians of an independent state but in this period a large number of new Jewish settlements have sprung up squeezing the poor hapless Palestinians.

Whenever the Palestinians protest over usurpation of their land, they are bombed and killed or sent to jails. What is more tragic is that the neighbouring countries have been involved in domestic crises to the extent that they have no time to think and speak about the plight of Palestinians. Last Tuesday, extremist Israeli settlers vandalized and set fire to a mosque in the West Bank village of Jaba near Jerusalem. This was the fourth mosque to be attacked in the last 18 months. Yet Israeli officials have contented themselves with merely denouncing the attacks without taking any serious steps to stop or deter them. This lack of action by Israel is emboldening the extremist settlers to increase their incitement and attacks against Palestinians. The international community has to protect Palestinians from Israel and its extremist settlers. In this perspective it is necessary that the UN and OIC must take notice of the new developments and the Palestinian refugees in different countries must also raise their voice by holding peaceful demonstrations in world capitals to draw their attention to the sufferings of the poor people.
