World urged to end HR violations in IHK

Wednesday, June 20, 2012 - geneva—A delegation of Kashmiri leaders headed by Altaf Hussain Wani met representatives of different intentional human rights organisations and briefed them about the current human rights situation in occupied Kashmir.

The members of the delegation Sardar Amjad Yousaf and Syed Faiz Hussian Naqashbandi met the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Madam Pillay in Geneva, and congratulated on her re-appointment for the second term.

They said that the appointment had provided her with an opportunity to address the human rights issues of the victims who received little or no attention during her first term. “People of occupied Kashmir are looking towards her to take steps to make an end to the human rights violations in the territory,” they added.

They further said that India should not be given a clean chit for its human rights records while adopting the outcome of the 13th session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).

India has failed to fulfill its commitment and pledges made during the first UPR cycle and it neither ratified the convention against torture nor did it repeal the draconian laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act despite the repeated condemnation by intentional human rights organisations and mandate holders.—KMS
