The real provider..!
“I am a Torah scholar,” he replies. “A Torah scholar. Hmm.” the father says. “Admirable, but what will you do to provide a nice house for my daughter to live in as she’s accustomed to?” “I will study,” the young man replies, “and God will provide for us.”
“And how will you buy her a beautiful engagement ring such as she deserves?” asks the father. “I will concentrate on my studies,” the young man replies, “and God will provide for us.” “And children?” asks the father. “How will you support children?” “Don’t worry, sir, God will provide,” replies the fiancé. The conversation proceeds like this, and each time the father questions, the young idealist insists that God will provide.
Later, the mother asks, “How did it go, honey?” The father answers, “He has no job and no plans, but the good news is he thinks I’m God.” A few years ago while doing quite well in life, I started looking down at a certain kind of people who I felt were not as ambitious as me. I looked down on them as they drove an old car whereas I had the best that money could buy. I laughed at their rented house, while staying in one that I had bought myself. But strangely I noticed that these people managed quite well.
On questioning them, I found that they were not really interested in a big fancy car, and were quite happy in the small rented house they lived in, but most importantly, whenever I asked them how they managed, they would tell me, “God provides!” And let me tell you they were provided well. They had simple faith and when they needed something badly they prayed for it and they got it. God provided all their needs. When the flat owner wanted back his house, they would miraculously get another landlord offering them a better house at a more reasonable rent.
God provided for them. Coming back to the joke we read. I guess it will be only a matter of time before the father who thinks he will have to play God, realizes that God would actually provide for his daughter, her husband and the children. He would learn, like I learnt, that ‘God will provide’ if you believe He does..!
